Brazil's Lithium Valley

A world-class pegmatite district in Minas Gerais

Geographic Context

The “Lithium Valley” refers to a pegmatite belt in northeastern Minas Gerais, Brazil. The district includes operating hard-rock lithium mines and lithium exploration and development projects.

Geological Setting

The district features LCT-type (lithium-cesium-tantalum) pegmatites associated with late-stage granitic intrusions. These bodies can span hundreds of meters in strike length with high-grade spodumene mineralization.

Recent discoveries have also revealed rare earth enrichment (TREO/MREO) and gallium fertility, expanding the district's strategic importance beyond lithium alone.

Selected Regional Companies and Projects

The Lithium Valley includes operating, development-stage and mineral-rights interests, including:

  • • Sigma Lithium – Operates the Grota do Cirilo hard-rock lithium mine and processing complex
  • • Lithium Ionic – Developing the Bandeira Project
  • • Atlas Lithium – Advancing the Neves Project toward planned first commercial production in 2027
  • • BYD – Holds mineral rights for two plots in the region, according to public records reported by Reuters

Why It Matters

As global demand for battery metals accelerates, Brazil's Lithium Valley represents a strategic alternative to Asian and Australian supply chains. Key advantages include:

  • • Established mining infrastructure and skilled workforce
  • • Proximity to domestic EV manufacturing hubs
  • • Mining-friendly regulatory framework
  • • Large-scale, high-grade deposits amenable to mechanized extraction

Atlantico's Position

Atlantico Energy Metals’ Novo Cruzeiro Project comprises 15 contiguous exploration permits covering 24,387.28 hectares in northeastern Minas Gerais, Brazil. First-pass exploration returned elevated rare earth values and identified lithium-anomalous stream-sediment catchments, several with coincident caesium and rubidium pathfinder support. Novo Cruzeiro remains an early-stage exploration project with no known mineralization, historic drilling, mineral resources or mineral reserves.
